Slides and images of Pacific area cloth survival charts from World War II from the collection of physical oceanographer Robert S. The color slides document the 1952 Shellback Expedition, the coastline of La Jolla, UC San Diego's campus, the ship E.W. Scripps, and Friday Harbor, Washington. The images also include one photograph of Harald Sverdrup and Walter Munk from 1946. In addition, the collection contains scans of four rayon cloth survival charts, which were printed with information on ocean currents and drift patterns and issued to pilots and aircraft personnel by the Army Air Forces between 1943 and 1945.
