Melanesian and Pacific Island Studies
The UC San Diego Library contains several materials, both published and unpublished, pertinent to the study of Melanesia. The strengths for this area include anthropology, European voyages of exploration and research, archaeology, linguistics, and history. A special emphasis is placed on collecting primary source materials: anthropologists' fieldnotes, government patrol reports, microfilms of mission records, firsthand accounts of travelers, and newspapers from the region, etc. The collection also includes many dissertations and theses.
